The Fall Season on Beaver Lake means two things… One, it is time to take Boats and Docks out of the lake… Two, it’s cleanup time.
Beaver Lake Draw-down to Start Columbus Day
Columbus Day is the start of the fall draw-down. The Town of Derry will open the sluice way at the meadow dam to draw down Beaver Lake. There are couple of reasons for doing this, one is to allow waterfront property owners an opportunity to repair retaining walls. The second, is to control possible spring flooding.
So, what does this mean for most of us?
At this time it is important to take your boat out of the water, the lowering of the lake makes use of the boat ramp difficult. So don’t wait! It is also important to remove docks and floats. The winter ice will ruin these structures but more importantly they create a hazard for those who use the lake in winter. So please remove your docks and floats.
It’s Fall Cleanup Time!
Saturday October 18
The BLIA will host its bi-annual around the lake cleanup on Saturday, October 18th. Join us at the Pond Road bridge at 9am for Coffee and Donuts and to pick up a Blue Bag.
Members and friends of the BLIA are asked to lend a hand picking up roadside trash around Beaver Lake. The BLIA holds a cleanup event twice a year in conjunction with the town wide fall cleanup sponsored by Go Green Derry.
It really is a nice feeling to get out with your neighbors working together to keep the roads around the lake clean. And as the saying goes “many hands make light work.”
