Milfoil Mitigation

For the 2019 season, the SCUBA diving team of Dave Rivard, Tim Harrigan, Ken Kimball, Shannon and Steven Anthony spent 75 hours diving, removed 2,064 plants totaling 203 gallons.

We are halfway through the 2020 diving season and the divers have completed 32 hours of diving, removed 867 plants totaling 55 gallons of milfoil.  The team continues to find large (4-6’) plants, although the smaller plants are more prevalent which is great news and reflecting progress.

The team has taken the next step to become more productive.  Tim Harrigan allowed the divers to borrow a sea scooter which propels the divers underwater to cover more ground in less time.  Given the results that the scooter has allowed the team to achieve, the board of directors voted to purchase one so that more divers can cover additional ground at the same time.

The meadow has improved from the herbicide treatment across 15 acres in 2019.  On August 5, the meadow will be treated, yet a significantly reduced area to approximately 1.5 acres along East Derry Road, Martha Drive and Sabra Circle.
